Travel grants

We have several travel grants available for Australian students, New Zealand students, and international students. You can apply for a travel grant during the registration process – you will need to provide a brief personal statement explaining why you are applying for a travel grant and how coming to IONS KOALA 2017 will benefit you and the conference, as well as a breakdown of the costs involved in travelling to Brisbane.

Applications for international travel grants (for students coming from outside Australia and New Zealand) will open upon registration and close at 5pm AEST on Friday 25 August.

Australia and New Zealand students can apply for travel grants up until registration closes at 5pm AEST on Friday 22 September.

Note that in order to provide support to as many students as possible, we may only award part of what you request. International applicants may be awarded up to a maximum $1000 AUD, and Aus/NZ applicants up to $500 AUD.

Please note the following regarding travel grants:

  • We cannot guarantee that your travel grant application will be successful.
  • Applications will be reviewed by members of the IONS KOALA 2017 committee, and awarded as they see fit.
  • We cannot guarantee that you will be awarded the full amount requested, or that the amount awarded will fully cover your travel costs. Attendees must ensure that they are able to cover their costs before accepting any grant.
  • Grants will be paid by reimbursement, up to the amount awarded, after the conference, and only if the awardee has attended more than 50% of the conference and given the presentation awarded by the IONS KOALA 2017 committee.
  • Awardees must make their own travel arrangements, and cover the cost until the reimbursement is made.
  • Awardees must provide tax invoices for travel expenses to receive reimbursement. If the invoices do not exceed the amount awarded, additional funds beyond those covered by the invoices will not be awarded.
